The Pathfinder’s side profile tapered high and toned, the wheel holes had chunky cladding, and buyers got a choice of 18, 19, or 20-inch rims depending on the trim.

The rear of the Nissan is a favorite angle; Thick “PATHFINDER” word signs stretch along the trunk lid, sleek LED taillights are lined up at every corner, and pieces of silver are were placed low on bumpers around license plates.

Beyond the sharp details on the touchscreen and the new round drive mode selector on the center console, the inside of the Pathfinder looks familiar.

An optional 9.0-inch touchscreen and 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster are built-in from the more diminutive Rogue, as are the steering wheel and flat-bottomed gear shifter.

But borrowed pieces don’t necessarily mean bad; The clean and ergonomically ergonomic styling of this cabin design makes the Rogue and Pathfinder equally great at this.

Much more modern and truck-like interior design replaces the old-fashioned style of the last generation. The Pathfinder remains a three-row SUV, but buyers can now choose to swap standard second-row bench seats for captain’s chairs—a desirable feature in family crossovers.

Nissan has integrated more storage space this time around, including a large bin under the center console that the driver or passenger can access in the front seat.

The top trim level comes with luxuries such as semi-aniline leather seats, heated and ventilated front seats, and panoramic sunroofs.

The 8.0-inch infotainment touchscreen is standard and runs the latest version of the NissanConnect software interface; Larger 9.0-inch screens are standard on SL and Platinum models.

Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are both standards, and the former can be synced wirelessly on the top trim.

A 12.3-inch digital measuring screen, onboard Wi-Fi hotspot, wireless smartphone charging pads, SiriusXM satellite radio, head-up screen, and navigation system on the dashboard are all optional features.

The semi-aniline skin is comfortable, the seats themselves are well contoured to the body, and the shape offers plenty of support for long distances. And on this Platinum model, heating and ventilation became standard.

The second row offers a choice of a traditional three-seat bench or two captain’s seats – our testers, like any Platinum trim, come with the latter.

Just like the front seat, the leather bucket in the second row is comfortable, with plush armrests and a center console with two cupholders and mobile phone storage.

And the center console is easy to remove; A button on the front of the console lets you remove it from the floorboard with a single press.

Neither Pathfinder’s 38.4-inch headroom nor the 35.5-inch legroom in the second row is the best in its class.

Legroom figures are deficient – both the Hyundai Palisade and Kia Telluride offer 42.4 inches of legroom. But that doesn’t mean the Pathfinder’s second line isn’t comfortable enough.

Access to the third row of Pathfinder is straightforward. Remove the center console and tuck between the two captain’s seats or use Nissan’s intelligent EZ-Flex second-row seat mechanism that tilts and folds the seat forward at the push of a button. It even works with empty child safety seats.

The third row is not our definition of spaciousness, and it only offers 28.0 inches of legroom. Long-legged punters won’t be happy to get back there during a more extended fight.

But headroom, hip space, and shoulder space are all solid, beating broad alternatives like the Hyundai Palisade.

Most of the technology inside Pathfinder is familiar. The same 12.3-inch digital cluster, 9.0-inch touchscreen, and 10.8-inch head-up display from the test Rogue Platinum.

Digital sets and HUD are exclusive to Platinum models, while more giant touchscreens are available on the SL.

The same NissanConnect from Rogue was also brought in, including wireless Apple CarPlay, Wi-Fi hotspots, and wireless charging.

The screen looks good, with android auto projections as straightforward as possible. We hope for 2023 there is a wireless connection for Android like Apple.

There are six USB ports. The first two rows have one USB-A and one USB-C, while the third row chooses a pair of EXCLUSIVE USB-A ports. Either way, everyone in the cabin should be able to connect most of the time.

2023 Nissan Pathfinder Platinum Performance

The Pathfinder Drive Engine is a very smooth 3.5-liter V6 that produces 284 horsepower and 259 pound-feet.

This engine is a remnant of the previous generation, with no updates to power or torque – but the Pathfinder doesn’t crave more power.

The most welcome update is transmission; Nissan swapped the old, whiny CVT for a better nine-speed automatic transmission. Now the gearbox feels smoother and smoother, with better gear shifts.

The platform under the new Pathfinder is also the same as last year, meaning there has been little change in driving dynamics—Pathfinder is competent around the corner. And although the steering wheel is very driven, it doesn’t feel numb.

Like many modern crossovers, Nissan installed the Pathfinder with some essential off-road pieces. And with Sand, Mud/Ruth, and Snow modes in addition to the traditional Normal and Eco options, Pathfinder will transfer power accordingly in slippery situations.

Its 7.1-inch ground clearance is enough for a primary soft road. Pathfinder can conquer low traction situations such as heavy rain, mud, and, based on our first trip, snow.

In contrast, SL and Platinum trims get enhanced navigation-related cruise control, monitoring road conditions and slowing down for turns and turns. ProPilot is one of the best mainstream advanced security systems.

Pressing the blue ProPilot Assist button on the steering wheel activates automatic steering input, lane centering, braking, and acceleration.

ProPilot works very well, keeping the Pathfinder centered on lanes on the highway with minimal interference from the driver and braking the vehicle seamlessly to zero.

Fuel Economy

The Platinum Pathfinder with four-wheel drive reaches 20 miles per gallon of the city, 25 highways, and 22 combined.

Technically the Platinum model is the least efficient trim of the group – both two-wheel-drive models and non-Platinum 4WD models reach up to 23 combined. But even with all-wheel drive, the Pathfinder is still one of the more efficient options in this segment.

The essential Pathfinder S with a two-wheel drive starts at $33,410 plus $1,150 for delivery and handling. All-wheel drive adds $1,900 to the asking price across the board. The highest-range Platinum model started at $46,190, rising to $48,090 with all-wheel-drive.
