The Tesla Model Y is the best-selling vehicle in Norway in November.
The Norwegian new car market soars 21.9% year-on-year in November to 15,274 registrations, leading to a year-to-date volume up 28.9% to 155,709 units. BEV sales surge 60.3% year-on-year to 11,274 and 73.8% share for the month and up 58.4% to 99,948 and 64.2% share year-to-date. PHEV sales drop -11.1% to 2,653 and 17.4% share but are up 35.4% year-to-date to 33,460 and 21.5% share. HEVs sink -51.9% to 575 and 3.8% share and are down -17.9% to 9,128 and 5.9% share year-to-date. Petrol sales account for just 2.3% of the market in November and 4.4% year-to-date while diesel is at 2.7% and 4.1% respectively.
In the brands ranking, Tesla (+447.2%) is up 5-fold year-on-year to return to the pole position with 11.7% share vs. 10.3% so far this year where it is up 272%. Leader last month, Volkswagen (-8%) is knocked down to #2 and 8.3% share while Audi (+67.7%) and Hyundai (+105.1%) both easily outpace the market and Volvo (+21.6%) matches it. Toyota (-45.5%) suffers from HEV going out of fashion in Norway, with Ford (+212.1%) and Skoda (+61.6%) also very dynamic in the remainder of the Top 10. Below, Land Rover (+376.9%), Porsche (+284.6%), Opel (+142.9%) and Citroen (+138.1%) stand out with surreal gains. Norway is a testing ground for a handful of Chinese EV makers, and this month BYD is down 3 spots on October to #16, Xpeng (+3233.3%) is up three to #24 and NIO is up 11 to #25.
Model-wise, the Tesla Model Y lodges a third win in the past four months at 6.6% share and the only nameplate to sell over 1,000 units for the month. The Tesla Model 3 (+188.8%) follows in outstanding shape with the VW ID.4 rounding out the podium. In fact there are six recent EV launches in the November Top 10: the Audi Q4 at #4, the Ford Mustang Mach-E at #7, the Skoda Enyaq at #8 and the Hyundai Ioniq 5 at #10. The Polestar 2 (+41%) and Nissan Leaf (+17.6%) also shine in the remainder of the Top 10, while the Porsche Taycan (+353.7%) ends the month at a world-best #11. The BYD Tang is down 5 ranks to #13, while among other Chinese models the MG Marvel R is up 20 spots to #37, the NIO ES8 is up 61 to #41 and the Xpeng G3 is up 7 to #48.
